Nurture Groups & 1:1 sessions
The Scandinavian concept of forest school learning, has proven particularly effective for 1:1 and small groups of young people who have social & emotional difficulties, and may struggle in a school environment, therefore needing additional support to improve their academic attainment.
With an aim to replace missed early experiences, bespoke weekly sessions are designed to help improve socialisation, language, & communication, confidence and self-respect.
The calming and sensory nature of learning in a woodland environment provides free time and space to help students explore, negotiate, and manage their own risk.
This helps create a sense of calm and promotes conversation and curiosity.
The opportunities to be able to ‘keep trying’ develop vital people skills and improves mental health, well-being and physical development, helping students engage and do well in their classroom environment, with a focus to build relationships between their peers, teachers and other adults, and to cope more confidently with the world around them.
Activities such as bug hunting, den building, zip wiring, tree identification, fire and tool skills, understanding seasonal changes and flora and fauna, can be planned over a series of weeks bespoke to the group’s requirements (we recommend a minimum of 2 terms)
A visit to our on-site farm to interact and get hands-on with our pigs, goats, chickens and ducks also provides a much-loved understanding and knowledge of animals and animal welfare.
